How to Draw a Jacket in 10 Steps
This ten step tutorial shows how to draw a jacket, the kind that is generally worn in the winter or in cold weather.

The jacket provided as the example has a fairly straightforward design to make the guide beginner friendly. The drawing is also done one part (or set of parts) at a time so that the steps easy to follow.
It’s recommended that you start the tutorial in pencil and use light and easy to erase lines. You can darken them after you’ve drawn all parts of the jacket.
Step 1 – Draw Half of the Jacket’s Main Body

First, define the jacket’s main body. This should look similar to a vest with a split down the middle for the zipper.
At the top draw a cut out for the neck. This should then transition into downwards sloped shoulder. Make the body of the jacket narrower as it goes down from the shoulders and then slightly wider around the stomach area. It should then get narrower again ending with a slightly curved bottom.
An easy way to draw this part of the jacket is to use the split of the zipper as a guide and to outline each half one at a time. Both halves don’t need to be perfectly symmetrical but try and make them fairly close in shape.
Step 2 – Draw the Sleeves

Onto each side of the “vest” add the sleeves. Draw running down from the shoulders and make them angled slightly outwards to each of their respective sides. Give each sleeve a slightly wider area near it’s end that then transitions into a curved bottom.
Try and draw the sleeves to be somewhat symmetrical, however, similar to the jacket’s main body, they don’t need to be perfectly so.
Step 3 – Draw the Collar

Going up from the neck opening drawn earlier, draw the collar. It’s forward facing end should be lower than it’s back end. Draw the forward facing part curving slightly downwards and and the back end curving up. Also, make sure that the lines that define the collar’s front don’t touch the sides of it’s outline. This will show the thickness of the jacket’s walls and help make it look puffy.
Step 4 – Draw the Hem

At the bottom of the “vest” area add the hem. Make it slightly narrower than the main body and give it a similar curve at the bottom. Also, extend the zipper area to run all the way down through it.
Step 5 – Draw the Cuffs

At the bottom of the sleeve draw the cuffs. Make these slightly narrower than the sleeves themselves and make each somewhat similar in shape to the hem.
Step 6 – Draw the Chest Area

Define the design of the jacket’s chest area by outlining two sections on each of it’s sides. Draw these angled downwards form the center as shown in the example.
Step 7 – Draw the Zipper

With the large part of the jacket outlined you can move on to adding it’s smaller details. Start with the zipper.

You can see how to draw the zipper step by step in the above illustration.
Please note that if your drawing is fairly small as a whole it can be difficult to add the zipper as that will generally make it really tiny. If you find that to be the case you can simplify things by leaving out most of the zippers smaller parts.
Step 8 – Draw the Pockets

Draw the pockets (or really the piping near their openings) angled downwards from the middle on each side of the jacket. Make their overall shapes slightly curved.
Step 9 – Draw the Ribbing on the Hem & Cuffs

Draw a series of lines along the cuffs and hem to create an appearance of ribbing and show that there are the stretchy parts of the jacket.
Step 10 – Color the Jacket

In this case the jacket is mainly green with a golden yellow chest are, hem and cuffs. It also has a bit of white around the pockets.
To apply the colors you can use just about anything you like or have available (pencil crayons , paints, markers, etc…). An easy way to create the “golden yellow” is by mixing a bit of brown into the yellow. You can either do this directly with paints or by applying the colors in layers using colored pencils.
You can of course also go with an entirely different color combination if you prefer.
Conclusion
This guide shows how to draw a jacket with a simple design. It’s fairly straightforward and beginner friendly so hopefully you’ve not had any trouble following along.
