The mirror used as the example has a fairly plain and traditional looking design that is quite easy to draw. You can see it’s what it looks like as well as a preview of the included steps in the example above.

It’s recommended that you start the tutorial in pencil and make light lines that are easy to erase in case you make a mistake. You can darken them later on with a black pen or marker.

Step 1 – Draw the First Half of the Mirror

Before you begin drawing the mirror itself it may be helpful to make a straight horizontal line through the middle of your page or drawing area. This line can help insure that the drawing does not become crooked and can also help you see if both of it’s halves are symmetrical.

The frame of the mirror will be oval shape, keep this in mind when drawing and add it’s first half to one side of the guide line (as shown in the example). You can leave the very bottom part open (not touching the line) for the handle.

Step 2 – Draw the Second Half of the Mirror

On the other side of the line draw the second half of the frame. Try and keep both halves as symmetrical as you can.

Step 3 – Draw the Handle

Going down from the upper portion of the mirror add the handle. You can once again draw one side and then the other.

Be sure to make the handle significantly narrower than the outline of the frame.

Step 4 – Draw the Glass

Inside the frame outline the oval shaped glass. You can use the frame as a guide when drawing it. Erase the center line (drawn in step one) after adding this part of the mirror.

Step 5 – Draw the Handle Hole & Finish the Line Drawing

For the last detail add a little round hole towards the bottom of the mirror’s handle (usually used to hang it on the wall). Afterwards, if you are happy with with your drawing thus far go ahead and trace over it with a black pen/marker or darker pencil lines.

Step 6 – Color the Mirror

Coloring the mirror is fairly simple. Make the glass part a light blue and make the handle and frame just about any color you like. In this example it will be yellow/orange which goes well with the blue.

To make the mirror look reflective leave a long white highlight running along the middle of the glass. Lightly outline the highlight before coloring with either a blue or regular pencil to make sure you don’t accidentally go over it.

You can use pretty much any medium you like to add the colors. Paints, markers and colored pencils or some mix of these can all be good options.

Conclusion

The example shown in this tutorial is of a fairly simple and traditional looking hand mirror. As it’s shape is not very complicated there really is not that much to drawing one so hopefully you’ve found it easy to follow along.
