How to Draw Earrings Step by Step
This tutorial shows how to draw a pair of earrings with a fairly common design in four steps. It provides easy to follow examples and quick and simple instructions.
You can see a preview of the drawing steps for the earrings in the image above. There is also an extra example at the end with an alternative combinations of colors.
Start the tutorial in pencil and make light lines as you will need to erase little bits of the drawing in one of the steps. Light lines will also make it easier to correct mistakes. You can darken them later on with a black pen or marker.
Step 1 – Draw the Bottoms of the Earrings
Begin by drawing the bottom parts of the earrings. In this case they will be shaped somewhat like drops of water but with flat tops that look like they’ve been cut off.
Step 2 – Draw the Tops
Add two “caps” onto the parts drawn in the previous step. On top of each “cap” draw little bit’s of wire that are each shaped like an upside down letter “U”. Try and make these quite thin in comparison to the other parts.
Step 3 – Draw the Earwires & Finish the Line Drawing
Erase a tiny bit of each of the “U” shaped wires and draw in the earwires that are attached to them. These should be shaped somewhat like upside down hooks, as shown in the example.
Once done outlining all of the parts of the earring you can trace over them with a thin black pen or marker. If you don’t have one around just darken your lines with the pencil.
Step 4 – Color the Earrings
You can make the earrings any color you like. However, their metallic parts often tend to be either gold or silver. Also, to show that the earrings are shiny leave a couple of white reflections in each of them as shown in the example. Outline these with either a regular pencil or in the same colors that you will use for each of the parts and then simply color around them.
To get the gold look you can go with yellow mixed with a little bit of brown. If for example going with colored pencils you can first use a yellow one and then lightly go over that with a brown one.
In this first example the bottom portions of the earrings which can be stones, gems or even just plastic will be red.
Alternatively if you want the metallic parts to look like silver you can make them grey as shown above. You can also see what they will look like with blue stones/gems.
Conclusion
This tutorial shows how to draw a fairly simple pair of earrings with two different color variations. You can of course also experiment with other colors or even change the design of some of their parts.
