How to Draw Glasses Step by Step
This tutorial shows an easy way to draw a pair of glasses in four steps. It includes simple drawing and coloring examples along with some quick tips.
You can see a preview of the drawing steps for the glasses in the picture above. In this case they will have a fairly simple design with just the bare minimum parts to make them easier to draw.
It’s recommended that you start the drawing in pencil and make light lines that are easy to erase in case you make a mistake. You can darken them later on by tracing over your drawing with a black pen or marker.
Step 1 – Draw an Outline of the Frame
Begin with an outline of the frame shaped as shown in the example. Also be sure to leave some room at the top of your drawing area for the temples (parts that go around the ears).
It may be helpful to draw a straight vertical line (lightly in pencil) through where you want to have the glasses. This can make it easier to see if both their halves are equal in width.
To one side of this line outline the first half of the frame.
On the other side add the second half.
You can erase the centerline after you finish this step of the drawing.
Step 2 – Add the Lenses
Inside each side of the frame outline the lenses. These should be similar in shape to each of the halves drawn in the previous step but smaller. The distance between them and the outer part of the glasses is what will determine the thickness of the frame. So if you want to experiment a bit with the design you can draw larger lenses for a thinner frame or smaller lenses for a thicker one.
Step 3 – Add the Temples & Finish the Line Drawing
For the last two parts add each of the temples (again the parts that go around the ears). You can again simply refer to the example for their shapes.
Once done trace over your drawing with a thin black pen, marker or darker pencil lines.
Step 4 – Color the Glasses
To color the glasses you can make the frame brown and the lenses blue. Paints, colored pencils, and markers can all be good coloring options for this.
You can also leave a pair of white highlights inside each of the lenses (light reflecting form them) to help show that they are made of glass and are smooth and refelective.
Outline the highlights in the same blue you use for the lenses (or very light pencil lines) as shown in the example above to make it easier to color around them.
Conclusion
A simple pair of glasses like the one in this example is quite easy to draw. Making the two half symmetrical may be a bit of a challenge but after drawing the first half simply try and make the second half as similar as you can. If it doesn’t come out right the first time you can always erase the parts that don’t look good and try again.
