How to Draw a Bottle of Water Step by Step
This six step tutorial shows how to draw a bottle of water with easy to follow illustrated examples and quick instructions.

The focus of the guide is on showing how to create a simple drawing of a bottle of drinking water that both looks good and is easily recognizable as such a container.
You can see the main drawing stages for the bottle in the preview image above but there are additional examples shown below to make the process even easier to understand.
Although the tutorial is put together in a way where you don’t necessarily have to do any erasing, it’s still good to have that option. For this reason it’s recommended that you start in pencil and make fairly light line that won’t leave marks when erased. You can darken them once you have all parts of the water bottle outlined.

Step 1 – Draw the Body of the Water Bottle

First, draw the largest part of the water bottle that is comprised of the “neck”, “shoulder”, side walls and bottom.

Draw the Neck
Start by outlining the thinner area at the top of the bottle’s body called “the neck”. Make the upper end of the outline flat and draw the sides curving slightly outwards as they run down.
Draw the Shoulder
Draw the shoulder running down from the neck and make it wider towards the bottom.
Draw the Side Walls
Going down from the shoulder draw the bottle’s sides. For this particular water bottle’s design simply make them straight.
Draw the Bottom
To complete this part of the drawing, add the bottom of the bottle as as shown in the example. Draw it to be slightly curved with rounded sides.
Step 2 – Draw the Neck “Ring”

Onto the bottle’s neck add the neck ring (the thicker area below the lid). Make the top and bottom of it’s outline flat and the sides rounded.
Step 3 – Draw the Cap

Slightly extend the bottle’s neck upwards past the ring and on to of it draw the lid. You want there to be a little gap between the lid and the neck ring.
Draw the lid’s outline with a flat bottom, rounded sides and a slightly rounded top.
Step 4 – Draw the Water

Once the overall shape of the bottle is defined, draw a line to indicate the water level inside of it. Position this near the top but leave a bit of space between the water and the lid as water bottles of this type usually are not filled all the way to the top.
Step 5 – Draw the Label

For the last part of the line drawing add the label. Position it roughly in the middle of the bottle’s body (vertically) Draw it’s upper end to be flat and make it’s bottom slightly curved. However, make this less curved than the bottle’s bottom. Otherwise your drawing will look odd.
Withe label drawn you should have all parts of the bottle outlined. Once you reach this point, make sure that everything looks good and if so, trace over your lines to darken them. An easy way to do this is either by pressing harder on the pencil or by using a thin black marker.
Step 6 – Color the Bottle of Water

When coloring the bottle it can be a good idea to use some blues as blue is a color generally associated with water. To follow the example make the lid a dark blue, the water a light blue and the label teal. However, before you color lightly outline a reflection running along one of the bottle’s sides (using a regular pencil or a blue crayon) and leave this white when coloring. You can then lightly go over the reflection with some blue and teal so that it doesn’t look overly bright.
Adding the reflection will help give the bottle a smoother look and will help make the drawing appear a little less “flat”.
Conclusion
This tutorial shows how to draw a bottle of water with just the bare minimum amount of detail to keep the guide simple and beginner friendly. By drawing the parts and shapes common to such an item and by applying some appropriate colors you can create a drawing that both looks good an is easily recognizable.
