You can see a preview of the drawing steps for the pillow above. As mentioned, this tutorial is quite simple and can be great if you are a beginner.

Start the drawing in pencil and make light lines that are easy to erase in case you make a mistake. You can darken them later on with a black pen or marker.

Step 1 – Draw the Corners of the Pillow

Begin by drawing the corners of the pillow. Draw each one of them as a sort of pointy curve with each one facing in a different direction. Also try and keep them similar in size.

The placing of these corners will help determine the shape of the pillow so try and keep that in mind when drawing. For example you will generally want the width to be greater than the height.

Step 2 – Draw Each Side

Create an outline drawing of the pillow by connecting each of the corners with a curved line as shown above. These lines do not need to be perfectly symmetrical but just like the the corners try and keep the curves on the opposing end somewhat similar to one another. The goal is to create a nice looking pillow that does not look like it’s warped or pulled to one side.

Step 3 – Draw Some Folds & Finish the Line Drawing

To give the drawing just a bit of detail you can add a few folds in the center of the pillow similar to the above example.

Once you have the folds and feel that you are happy with your drawing you can trace over it with a black pen or maker. If you don’t have one handy you can simple darken it with the pencil.

Step 4 – Color the Pillow

Pillows are often plain white and you can certainly just leave your drawing that way also. However, if the background of your drawing is also white as in the example it can be a good idea to give it some color to make it stand out.

When pillows are not white they tend to have fairly light colors. An easy way to get these is with water based paints or colored pencils.

In this case the pillow will be a light blue, but some other good colors can be a light pink, green or brown. You can of course also use other colors if you prefer. Once done you should have a finished drawing of a pillow.

Conclusion

The pillow in this example is quite simple and can be great if you are a beginner or are just looking to draw something easy for fun. The drawing can also be done fairly quickly as there are not too many details and you don’t have to be very precise with your lines.
