How to Draw a Scarf Step by Step
This tutorial shows how to draw a scarf in five steps. It provides simple line drawing and coloring examples along with straightforward instructions.

The scarf in the example is folded into three partially overlapping layers and drawn as though it’s lying on a surfaces. It has a pair of stripes and fringe on each end. Although the fringe is fairly detailed, overall this is quite an easy and beginner friendly guide.
The tutorial is put together in a way where no erasing is required in between the different steps. However, it’s still recommended that you start it in pencil and make light lines in case you happen to make a mistake. You can trace over your drawing with darker lines after defining all parts of the scarf.
Step 1 – Draw the Top Layer of the Scarf

Start by drawing the scarf’s top layer. Make it’s shape similar to that of a long rectangle and position it to be on an angle. Give the “rectangle rounded corners and make the one farthest to the left more rounded than the other two. Make the layer’s overall outline slightly uneven (lines not perfectly straight) so that it look more like fabric. Leave the lowest corner of the “rectangle” open and draw the ends of both of the lines around it to have tiny curves.
Step 2 – Draw the Scarf’s Middle Layer

Extend the bottom curve of the “rectangle’s” left side and draw it to eventually transitions into yet another uneven line (angled slightly upwards) with a tiny curve on it’s end. This will partially define the scarf’s middle layer.
Step 3 – Draw the Bottom Layer

To create the scarf’s bottom layer draw what looks like another rectangle that is partially overlapped by the first one. Again, give this one an uneven outlined. Position this “rectangle” so that it’s bottom right corner is close to the end of the line draw in the previous step (leave a small gap between them).
Once you have the bottom layer drawn as described, this should create a basic outline of the scarf with two folds and tree partially overlapping layers.
Step 4 – Draw the Fringe on Each End of the Scarf

Along each end of the scarf draw the fring. Outline it’s threads to have a wavelike shapes. In this case there are nine of them per side.

To make it easier to space out the threads first draw the one in the middle. Follow this up with the threads on the sides. Next, draw the threads in between the middle an each of the sides. Finally, draw some threads in between all of these.
Step 5 – Draw the Stripes

Near the end of each side of the scarf draw a pair stripes to make it’s design slightly more interesting. You can can leave the stripes out if you prefer a simpler drawing.
Once done outlining the scarf trace over your lines to darken them. You can either do it by pressing harder on the pencil or with a thin black marker.
Step 6 – Color the Scarf

To color the scarf as in the example, make it blue with yellow stripes and fringe. If you prefer a different color combination you can use that instead. If you chose to leave out the stripes you can just make the entire thing one solid color.
If you don’t happen to have any coloring media just make the scarf and fringe grey using a regular pencil. If you chose to draw the stripes leave them white.
Conclusion
This guide shows an easy way to draw a folded scarf with partially overlapping layers. The scarf shown as the example has a fairly basic design with fringe (as is very common for scarfs) and a pair of stripes on each side. The guide is quite simple so hopefully you’ve not had much trouble following along with the steps.
