10 Ways to Draw Candy (Step by Step Guide)
This guide shows how to draw ten different kinds of candy with some of the most popular varieties. It provides step by step examples and quick instructions.

The different kinds of candy shown in the guide are the following:
- Lollipop
- Licorice Twist
- Candy Cane
- Wrapped Candy
- Hard Sugar Candy
- Jelly Bean
- Chewy Caramel
- Chocolate
- Chocolate Drop
- Chocolate Almond
It’s recommended that you first use a pencil to create a line drawing of whatever candy you wish to draw. You can also optionally trace over the outlines with a thin black marker afterwards.
An easy way to color the candy drawings is by using pencil crayons.
To make the drawing of each candy appear a little less flat and more three dimensional you can add some basic shading. You can generally apply the shading by using a regular pencil to darken the appropriate areas (as shown for each example).
How to Draw Lollipop Step by Step

To draw a lollipop start by making a circle to define it’s main shape. Going down from the circle draw the stick that such candies usually sit on. Make the stick fairly narrow and give it a slightly rounded bottom to help show that it has a cylindrical shape.
Running through the middle of the circle (horizontally) draw the rim that lollipops often have in that area. To do so you can erase a part of it’s outline. Make the rim very slightly curved and give it’s outline rounded corners.
To color the lollipop, first, lightly outline a little oval shaped reflection to the upper end of one of it’s sides. Next, make the lollipop any color you like. In this example it’s pink. You can make the stick a light yellow so that it stands out from the white of the paper.
Finally, add a few shadows. First, darkening the lower half of the rim and circle. When adding these shadows leave a little gap between them and the lollipop’s main outline so that they don’t touch it’s edges. Next, add a shadow running along the side of the stick opposite the reflection.
How to Draw a Licorice Twist Candy Step by Step

To draw a licorice twist begin by drawing the base outline of the stick. Next, create the twist by first drawing a series of angled lightly curved lines running along the stick’s surface. Afterwards, draw a series of curves along the edges of the stick’s outline with each curve joining every other pair of the angled lines. When done, erase the parts of the stick’s initial outline that are behind these curves.
Licorice candy are often red or black in color. To color the drawing as in the example, first, fill in the entire outline with red. Next, darken the lower sides of the twist “threads” and the areas in between them to create the shadows.
How to Draw a Candy Cane Step by Step

To draw a candy cane start with the outline of it’s main shape. Make this curved at the top and then straight through most of it’s length all the way down to the bottom.
Along this outline draw a series of curved stripes as shown in the example.
Color the candy cane by making the stripes red and green alternating between the two colors.
After coloring, add a shadow running along the bottom side of the curve and all the way down along it’s remaining length.
How to Draw a Wrapper Candy Step by Step

To draw a candy in a wrapper, first, outline the main part of the wrapper that covers the candy. Next, draw the ends of the wrapper sticking out to each side. Make these wider as they go out and define their outer edges with wavy lines. Next, draw some uneven lines fanning out towards the “waves” to show folds. Afterwards, draw the folds along the main part of the wrapper as shown in the example. Make these somewhat random in shape with rounded ends.
Before coloring the wrapper, outline a little reflection along the upper end of the wrapper’s main area. Make this oval in shape. The reflection will help make the wrapper look glossy. Next, make the wrapper any color you like (blue in the example) leaving the reflection white.
To finish the drawing of the wrapped candy, add some shadows. Darken it’s bottom, the folds along its main area and the bottoms of the wrapper ends.
How to Draw a Hard Sugar Candy Step by Step

To draw a hard sugar candy start by outlining it’s main shape. This should look something like a rectangle with heavily rounded corners. Next, draw rim running through the middle of this shape. Erase parts of it’s outline as needed. Make the rim straight with with rounded ends.
Before coloring, define a small oval shaped reflection near one of the upper corners of the candy’s outline. Next, make the candy any color you like (yellow in this example) and leave the reflection white.
Finally, add a shadow along the bottom half of the rim as well as the main shape. Draw these shadows in a way where they don’t touch the candy’s outline so there is a little gap between it and them. As mentioned at the start of the tutorial, you can use a regular pencil to create the shadows, however for lighter colors such as yellow, you can alternatively use an orange or a brown crayon.
How to Draw a Jelly Bean Step by Step

Draw the jelly bean by first outlining it’s main shape. As the name implies this should be shaped like a bean (slightly curved with rounded ends).
Make the jelly bean just about any color you like (yellow in this example). Before applying the color, lightly outline a little oval shaped reflection to the upper end of one of it’s sides and keep it white.
To finish the jelly bean drawing add a shadow running all the way around it’s edges. Make the shadow thicker along the side opposite the reflection and along the bottom. Overall, try and add the shadow in such as way as to create a smaller jelly bean shape inside of it.
How to Draw a Caramel Candy Step by Step

To draw a chewy caramel candy make it’s shape similar to that of a rectangular prism (a 3d rectangle) with rounded corners. First, define all of it’s edges but don’t join the lines that define them. Leave little gaps in between. Next, join the outer edges with little curves and leave the edges inside the main outline with gaps.
To color the chewy caramel drawing, make it an orange brown but leave a little white reflection curving along two of the upper edges. Afterwards, lightly go over the reflection with the orange brown as well.
Finally, to shade the drawing darken the sides of the “rectangle” one more so and one less so.
How to Draw a Chocolate Candy Step by Step

This example is of the kind of chocolate that might come in a box. Draw it starting with an outline of the outer shape. Give this a rounded bottom, sides and top. Next, define it’s forward facing edges with curved lines but leave little gaps in between them to create a sense of rounded corners.
Color the chocolate brown but leave a little white strip that curves along two of it’s upper edges to show a reflection. Afterwards lightly go over the reflection with some brown as well.
Finally, to add the shadows darken the sides of the chocolate candy but keep one slightly lighter than the other.
How to Draw a Chocolate Drop Candy Step by Step

To draw a chocolate drop candy or a chocolate chip start by outlining it’s main shape. Give it a rounded bottom and make it narrower as it goes up. Afterwards, add the little curved pointy tip on top.
Color the chocolate drop brown but leave a small oval shaped reflection alone one of it’s sides. Outline the reflection before coloring and leave it white as you color. Afterwards, lightly go over the reflection with the brown as well.
To finish the drawing, give the chocolate drop a shadow along it’s bottom that curves up the side opposite the reflection (but does not go all the way to the top).
How to Draw a Chocolate Almond Step by Step

To draw a chocolate almond start with it’s outline of it’s shape. Make this similar to an egg.
Color the chocolate almond brown but leave a thin white reflection curving along it’s upper end. You can also add a little break into the reflection strip near it’s back end to help make appear more natural. Afterwards, lightly go over the reflection with brown as well.
Finally, add a shadow running along the almond’s edges. Make it thicker along the bottom and the back.
Conclusion
This guide gives examples of tend popular varieties of candy. It first explains how to create their line drawings and then demonstrates how to apply some basic color and shading.
By giving each candy a shape characteristic of it’s particular kind you can make it easily recognizable. Afterwards, good use of color and shading can further help emphasizes each candy’s shape, type and texture.
